If you find yourself in Memphis, whether or not you remember how you got there, in between the Elvis sightings and debates over which kind of BBQ is best wet or dry, (I am partial to dry myself) be sure to swing by Yarniverse.
Yarniverse is a charming yarn shop with two floors of fiber finds. I had to keep reminding myself that I was on a budget and couldn’t buy all the luscious yarn I saw.
This became a bit of a problem when I saw the Koigu. I didn’t count the different colorways, but I would not be surprised if someone told me they had 20 or more. I bought two skeins of different, predominantly red, colorways for my next Koigu mixed skein creation. Had I not checked my Koigu stash, it would have been impossible to keep from buying five or six - just in case.
I had to be strong when looking through the Schaefer collection. I kept repeating, “I will only buy the Jane Addams colorway. I will only buy the Jane Addams colorway. No, I can’t get the Hellen Hayes or the Frieda Kahlo. I will only buy the Jane Addams colorway.”
After whiteknuckling it through the Koigu and Schaefer yarn, the next test of my self control was the wall of sock yarn. I knit socks. Lots of socks. July is traditionally the offical start of Christmas sock knitting season. I knit through sock yarn like crazy and very rarely pass up the opportunity to pick up a couple of skeins. Yarniverse has a good mix of sock yarns and fibers. More importantly, they have a good range of colorways in the sock yarns on the shelf. I had to restrain myself from a Tofutsie buying frenzy. There is something so cachet about wearing soy product, shrimp and crab shells on one's feet.
I will not even talk about the Lantern Moon needle display.
There is only one thing to do when surrounded by more than you can possibly buy, cut your stay short so the fiber fumes don't melt your resolve. No sense in starting out the family reunion with the resolve centers of your brain melted through. Not everyone appreciates my sense of humor.
