I am not proud. Unlike the Harlot, I am not above whining at being infected with what I am calling the ICVFH (In-Law Christmas Virus from Hell) whose first symptoms appeared December 28th in the car on the way home from Dallas.
I have gone through the "lying on the couch, drinking tea, and trying to knit phase". Now I have passed on to the acceptance that I will smell of Vick's vapor rub, with the underlying note of Carmex medicated lip balm for Rudolph Nose Syndrome (RNS), highlighted by demon eyes and Puff's Plus with Lotion shoved up the nose as a delightful accessory for the foreseeable future.
I went back to work on Wednesday. I thought that preferable to continuing to lie on the couch waiting to smash the snot fairy into oblivion between hacking up a lung and blowing my brains out through my nose. I thought I could go back to my normal life. (That snot fairy is one elusive bastard.) Of course, the temperature had to drop about 30 degrees with snow and ice. So I bundled up and braved the drive to work.
When I got to work and was not all that thrilled that my hair looked like I had worn a pin head hat until I took a good, long, look at my face in the mirror. I had hat hair, ICVFH induced RNS, splotchy skin and peeling lips. YEAH!
I had thought that by now I would be celebrating my freedom from Christmas knitting by knitting a lacey scarf out of the Blueberry, Jaeger Spun, Zephyr I bought at the Woolie Ewe in Dallas. I had thought that by now I would have gotten myself a pair of socks knitted out of the Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn, knit with Lantern Moon needles, both given to me as Christmas gifts by my parents. I thought I would have been able to clean the house, and get ready for my next semester at grad school with time to spare.
Who am I kidding? New Year - same life. Go figure. It hasn't all been a waste. At least I've been able to read a few books - just for fun; the new season of Law and Order has been good; Psych will be back; and the wait for the next and final season of Battlestar Gallactica is that much shorter.
